John's research interests are in the fields of social and political theory, psychoanalytic studies, the politics of identity and the analysis of contemporary subjectivities. He has a particular interest in the study of conflict in Northern Ireland and other divided societies. His publications include Identity, Ideology and Conflict: the structuration of politics in Northern Ireland (1996) and a series of articles which draw critically on contemporary social and psychoanalytic theory in an attempt to develop novel approaches to the study of entrenched ethnic conflict.
