Michael Fikaris is a visual artist and award winning editor, publisher and community builder.
As a Visiting Fellow in 2021, Michael aims to extend two manuscripts he has previously worked on An Accident and Where do I Belong?
An Accident is a graphic novel in four parts currently in production with Timorese poet Osme Gonsalves. This work follows the life of a Timorese child growing up during Indonesian military occupation over 25 years and questions the war machine that affects every living person on this planet.
Where Do I Belong? is a comic art anthology on the theme of ‘belonging’. A collaboration originally printed in 2015 with Refugee Art Project, featuring artwork by participants from refugee backgrounds in Sydney, young people in a juvenile detention facility in Victoria, and young people in workshops at the Signal arts studio in Melbourne.
Michael has completed many visiting artist residencies including placements in East Timor, Indonesia, Portugal and Aotearoa/New Zealand and is always drawing, painting and learning.
Michael is an IPCS Visiting Fellow for 2021.
