Global food supply chains, we have been told often in recent years, are in crisis. How much, though, does this language of crisis – as particular, contextual, temporally-bound – suffice to describe the conditions of the present?
FRIDAY 22 JULY, 11.00-12.30 PM AEST
IRSA WORLD CONGRESS OF RURAL SOCIOLOGY
CAIRNS & ONLINE
Join Victoria Stead, Melinda Hinkson, Lauren Rickards, Kelly Donati, Sarah Sipperl, Tomaso Ferrando, and Alex Blanchette for the panel discussion.
The roundtable event is part of an online series being organised by the World Congress of Rural Sociology, the Australasian AgriFood Network, Research Committee on Sociology of Agriculture and Food(RC40), in conjunction with the Institute of Postcolonial Studies.
FOOD SYSTEMS BEYOND THE PANDEMIC?
CRISIS, DISRUPTION, REGENERATION

In a context in which disruptions to the production, distribution and consumption of food are figured as exceptions to the smooth, just-in-time efficiencies of global supply chains, the COVID-19 pandemic has not simply represented a particular and acute moment of disruption, but rather a lens on a deeper, longer set of structural processes within which disruption is endemic. In this special roundtable event, join contributors to the recently-published Beyond Global Supply Chains: Crisis Disruption, Regeneration (Palgrave, 2022) in conversation about the structural, environmental and political fault lines running through the global food system, and the transformational possibilities we might yet wrest from the upheavals of the present moment.
Join Victoria Stead, Melinda Hinkson, Lauren Rickards, Kelly Donati, Sarah Sipperl, Tomaso Ferrando, and Alex Blanchette for the panel discussion.
